Okay Oppo. As we know, I just changed all 4 brakes (shop did that) the left front sway linkage and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , (doing the rears tomorrow with opponaut Zippie the newbie tech). The brakes and the linkage were done about 2k miles ago. The struts were just done on sunday (maybe 60 miles) and yet something else is still wrong.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
When I hit the brakes, if I hit them kinda hard, there is a single *thud* emanating from the left front side of the car. The car will only thud once. Never twice, and only when braking strongly.
I am thinking...broken motor mount? Perhaps the engine is shifting slighly with the abrupt braking?
When I googled this people said the brake pads were shifting in their housing. This could be...I guess. That would mean the shop did a piss poor job.
Any brilliant ideas?

Crash car. Blame bad brakes. Sue shop. ??? Profit!
But seriously, bring it back to the shop where you had work done. If it is any decent shop, they should back up their work a little bit

It'll be hard to say what the noise is without hearing it myself. Try thinking of what can move on the car. I can see if the caliper is not torqued down right tomorrow.

Take your brakes apart and make sure the pads are seated if you think that could be it. Remove wheel, two bolts, and carefully slide the caliper off. From there, if something is seriously wrong, it should be pretty obvious. Did this noise occur only after the brake job? Take the car back to the shop, and just say that you're getting a noise under heavy braking, thought it might go away over time, but hasn't. A good shop will take another look. If the shop gives you a hard time, unfortunately, cut your losses, and go DIY. You know not to go back to them. One important thing is that on all brakes (disc or drum), the pads only compress or expand to make contact. If they're moving at all in any other direction, something is very wrong.
A question (don't mind me, just questioning the powers that be)...
They replaced one sway bar link? This is the kind of part that gets replaced in pairs. If one is worn, I assure you, so is the other.
A bad motor mount (simply put) will only really make noise when you nail a pothole or other large sudden bump/dip. It will be quite the noise. You'll look back wondering what you lost, and when you see nothing, know it was the motor mount. Similarly, a bad strut mount will make a noise that will make you cringe. I had a strut mount pass the threshold of bad to worse, and it just squeaked whenever the car bounced a little. It was frustrating, and really annoying. I replaced the whole nine yards with Monroe Quick Strut assemblies. Cheaper, easier, and safer than wrestling with the springs.

Yeah, will definitely find my receipt and go back to the shop.
It cannot be the front strut mounts. I just replaced the front strut mounts with complete KYB quick strut assemblies last saturday. I am obviously not an expert, but I did this shit so carefully. I torqued everything to spec...I didn't damage anything. My struts before were goddamn terrible. They would bang every turn, groan all the time, and so forth. The new assemblies...well man it's a world of difference.
I should add thanks for the tips though. I think the noise was there before the brake job but I just chocked it up to bad struts. Which...while the struts were quite bad...was not causing this particular problem.
